About Taz

Hi, my name is Taz, and I’m the founder of Maythorn & Co.

I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, with four older siblings who were mostly out of the house by the time I started school. A lot of my childhood was spent alone, sometimes with friends who didn’t really stick, and sometimes with family when they came around. I had a lot of quiet time, and honestly, I didn’t mind it. I liked to think, imagine, and create my own little world.

One memory that always stayed with me was when my mom got sick one day and couldn’t really do much. I was young, maybe around 6 to 8, and I felt like I needed to do something for her. I didn’t really know what I was doing, but I went into the kitchen and made her breakfast. Two pancakes (somehow not burnt), scrambled eggs, toast, orange juice, and water. The kitchen was a complete mess.

When I brought it to her, she looked so happy and hugged me.

That moment stuck with me.

After that, I started making things for people, charm bracelets, drawings, little handmade flowers out of pipe cleaners and tissue paper. I loved seeing their reactions. The smiles, the appreciation… it made me want to keep creating.

Later on, when my wife and I got together, she introduced me to candle-making. I didn’t even know that was something you could do at home. She taught me everything she knew, and I became completely fascinated. I kept practicing, messing up, trying again, and slowly getting better. From there, I started learning more, soap making, DTF transfers, perfumes, and more.

But one thought always stayed in my mind:
How do I make something people will actually love?

There are already big brands out there, Bath & Body Works, Lush, The Body Shop. So why would anyone choose something I made?

I’ve started businesses before that didn’t work out, mostly because no one knew they existed. But this time, I want things to be different. I want to put more into it. I want to build something that actually reaches people.

I want Maythorn & Co to make people smile. To bring a little smile, maybe even a small laugh. Something you can share with friends, family or even just enjoy on your own.

I’m always still learning. Still experimenting with designs, scents and products. 

But with Maythorn & Co, I’m hoping to create something that people genuinely enjoy and something that keeps growing with me.

Hi, I'm Mori!

I'm the co-owner of Maythorn & Co. and the person you'll often find helping behind the scenes. My wife, Taz, brings many of our ideas to life, I help keep everything moving by assisting with production, answering customer emails, organizing orders, and making sure your packages are prepared with care.

I love being part of creating products that bring a little comfort, or happiness to someone's day. Whether it's packing a Blind Date with a Book, preparing soaps, or making sure every order is just right, I enjoy knowing that something we've made will end up in someone's home.

Outside of the shop, I enjoy playing games or just chatting with my friends (well me and my wife's friends 😆), writing my own book, spending time with my wife and going to classes for school.

Maythorn & Co is not about mass production or rushing products out. It’s about taking the time to create something that feels good to use, looks good in your space, and is worth coming back to.
